About

The Cyberfunk Music Group was formed in 2001 by the legendary DJ Quest. Following on from the huge success of his early releases on Rat Records, Botchit and Scarper and Hardcore Beats, DJ Quest decided it was time to launch his own brand of breaks and path the way for a more club driven breakbeat sound. Cyberfunk was born from Quest’s ambitions to bring breakbeat into a new era whist maintaining its traditional funk roots.
“The vision I had for the label was of a technical and futuristic type of breaks whilst still retaining funk. Given the word “cyber” is often associated with all things technical and futuristic I thought it was the obvious choice!” – DJ Quest on naming the label.

Cyberfunk launched with a massive release by DJ Quest & Ben Coupland ‘System Error / Bad Debt’ and has now gone on to rack up a staggering 29 releases from the likes of The Breakfastaz, Eskmo, DJ Mutiny, Baobinga and Odissi! Cyberfunk has made a huge impression on the entire breaks scene with its high production calibre and its passion for trying out new sounds and ideas. From tearing basslines such as Baobinga’s “Bashment Track” to punky vocals in the style of Odissi’s “Groupie”, from 2 step garage-esq tunes like “Sleazy Jet Rhumba” to house orientated vibes like Odissi & Motive’s “My Angel” remix. Cyberfunk’s output has never really had one solid style and DJ Quest endeavours to keep it that way.

“I always consciously look for music that is original or against the grain.  I’d like to honestly think we have never put one tune out that just runs with what is fashionable or ‘acceptable’ at the time etc.” - DJ Quest

Cyberfunk’s ever changing styles and sounds have gained new fans at every turning, but old fans are never left feeling out of the picture as all Cyberfunk releases have something in common – a true grip on ‘the funk’ and the ability to made a dancefloor explode.

After long runs of successful vinyl releases, 2005 marked a new chapter in the label’s history as it launched its first tracks in Digital format. Whilst the Digital Vs Vinyl debate raged strong in the scene, once again Cyberfunk nailed its colours to the post and showed its drive to conquer new challenges.

“I think the market at the moment is pretty much as it will be now for the next couple of years and I think its healthy having a nice mix of formats. We are proud to be representing our releases for the vinyl fans and the digital fans, being available in as many formats as possible as a label is the way forward. We are even launching a “Cyberfunk Classics” CD in a couple of months where people can buy 12 of our best selling tunes pre 2005 for around £5! The idea of being a multi format label really excites me.” - DJ Quest

The latest release on the label has received outstanding praise across the board including a huge plug by none other than Goldie in an interview for IDJ Magazine in the UK. The release schedule for the coming months looks hotter than a yeti in Barbados with a brand new album on its way and new single releases from Quest and Odissi, Si Begg and the hotly tipped Dilemn!
